We all know how important it is to stay hydrated. As a new and breastfeeding mom, I struggled with drinking an adequate amount of water each day. I've never been a big pop drinker, but I also had a really tough time drinking straight up water, and more so, enough of it. I found a few things that helped me get my daily recommended water intake, and even exceed it some days. Here are my super simple tips to stay hydrated:
1. Always, always, always have water around you. If I don't have a full glass near me, I simply don't drink water. Even if I am thirsty, I won't go to the other room to get that water glass. Yes, I am THAT lazy. So I always make sure to have water where I spend the majority of my day. For me, that's the bedroom and the main living and kitchen area. I keep a refillable water bottle with a lid next to my bed, and a large, 32oz Mason jar on the dining room table. My daily goal is to drink at least 2 of those Mason jars full of water, and one of the bottles that's next to my bed. It's a lot, but by having it where I can see it, I am more likely to drink it.
2. Add a drop or two of Vitality Essential Oil to your water. I hate the flavor of water. Filtered, unfiltered, you name it. Yuck. It's always tasted a bit like dust to me. Maybe I just don't have a good enough water filter in my home, but few people do. Not always, but sometimes when I feel like I need to change it up, I add a drop of Lime or Citrus Fresh Vitality Oil to my water. Essential Oils don't just add flavor to your plain water, they have have tons of other benefits that your typical grocery store flavored water doesn't have. If you do that, make sure you drink your water out of a glass, not a plastic cup to avoid ingesting the toxins that are drawn out of the plastic by the essential oils. If you need some vitality oils to add to your water, just contact me.
3. Drink out of a straw. I heard years and years ago how drinking out of a straw gives you wrinkles, but we're all getting old and dying anyways, so I say who cares! It makes drinking water WAY more fun. Now, again, if you're going to add essential oils to your water, make sure to use a stainless steel straw. That might not sound fun, but it's not bad at all, plus you avoid the waste and toxic material of a plastic straw. I have these.
4. Simply don't buy any pop. Trust me, it stinks and I totally crave a coke every now and then, too, but we have 4 forms of liquids at home: Water, Milk, Coffee and Alcohol. The last two will make you more dehydrated so if you find you consume a lot of those - no judgment here - then make sure to up your water intake!
There you have it, I told you they were super simple tips, but they work and they've helped me stay hydrated, produce enough milk for my babe and feel much better physically.
