We finally did it. We switched over to cloth diapers. It was 16 months in the making but thanks to a dear friend, we finally felt comfortable and confident enough to make the change. We had originally hoped to cloth diaper Zoe from the start, but fell into the convenience trap of disposable diapers within a few days of her arrival. Those first few weeks were hard, and the thought of adding yet another new task seemed too daunting, which was totally fine. Disposables worked for us and were what we needed for the first year.
Once we regularly saw our friend use cloth diapers on her sun, though, we started getting curious again and that desire to use them for Zoe rose again. I'm not going to lie, I didn't expect Luke to be so open to it - but that man is just amazing and he was all for it, even when I was still a little hesitant, he told me to "just go ahead and buy them, let's start this already." So we did. I ordered everything we needed and bam, we've been fans ever since.
It's different, but not too different and I honestly don't mind the extra laundry - I know... I must be lying, but I truly don't. I never did laundry regularly.... and this forces me to. So it works out. Zoe has fresh, clean diapers, and I don't run out of clothes to wear at the end of the week ;) Luke is probably happy, too, since he hasn't run out of socks since we started cloth diapering (he does laundry, too, for those wondering, but we still waited until the last second to do it all)
I wish we would've started cloth diapering from the start, but I know it just wasn't in the cards for us - we didn't know anyone using cloth diapers, so we had nobody to ask all our questions. Sure, there are plenty of facebook groups, but it really helped us having a actual person to talk to and show us their routine.
So which diapers do we use? We bought 24 SunBaby Diapers with Bamboo Inserts for daytime use and 4 Grovia ONE diapers to use overnight. SunBaby was what our friend swore by and what we had originally planned on using and the Grovia ONEs are beasts and super absorbent, perfect for overnight. I wash about every 2 days but could probably go 3 days in between washes.
We're also still using our Marley's Monsters cloth wipes, so now we're super crunchy in the diaper department and absolutely loving it.
